Spring 2007

FABRICS AND COLORS:
My Primary color palette for spring and summer is a clear case of black and white, in both solids and prints and often-as-not paired with red. For balance, I’m using apple green and bright orange, as well as muted neutrals – sandy tones and soft blues and lilacs that morph into bolder shades of turquoise and magenta for summer. A few woven metallic threads gives this season’s fabrics an ever-so-subtle hint of glamour that pairs up nicely with silks and pin-dot sheers.

SILHOUETTES:
With so many options to choose from, it will be difficult NOT to find a flattering shape and style for spring. The Audrey Hepburn skinny-leg pant we embraced last fall, ankle length and teamed with flats, is still very popular, with waistlines creeping up just a bit. In contrast, you’ll find more slouchy, hip-to-heel wide-leg pants, as well as everything in between: From knee-skimming urban knickers to cuffed gauchos that flare below the knee.

One of my favorites this season is my A-line tulip skirt, with a fitted yoke, slouch pockets, and either a bubble or a shirred band at the hem. Short, flirty empire dresses reminiscent of the 60’s come in both prints and solids. And be sure check out our newest contemporary lines: Gant from Sweden and Gérard Darel from France.

Blouses are even longer in length, to be worn over pants or leggings for spring, or alone as a tunic for summer. Riki blouses come in sheer silk chiffon we well as textured cottons and linens, with cap or pouf sleeves. As for jackets: Some are fitted while others are short and swingy, with big collars and big, covered buttons. One of my favorite jackets has a press-pleated peplum that dips in back.

DETAILS:
Once again, it’s the little details that add up to a big fashion statement at Riki – from satin trims, rousching and embroidery details to shirring and lace trim.

Leather bags are bigger and softer than ever, in classic shades of white, black and red, as well as bright orange and green. Besides lots and lots of flats – so easy to wear with skirts or cropped pants – we have plateaued wedges with sexy sling backs or peek-a-boo toes.
